What: A private academy in Baytown, Texas, serving ages 3-18
Why: The school was running a fundraising program, and need collateral marketing material to support its efforts. A fundraising brochure was created, to be mailed to alumni and distributed throughout the community and beyond. I wrote the text, which was interspersed with photos of children from the school in a "Student's Voice" style, alongside the Principal's voice, giving two perspectives from the school. The faculty specifically wanted a warm, sentimental tone.

Section One: Grammar School
Young student’s voice:
I like going to school at Baytown!
Principal’s voice:
At Baytown, our students are challenged to…know.
We understand our young students want to know answers to the question, “why?”
At Baytown Christian Academy, we encourage them to explore to the limits of their curiosity.
We know they want to know… more.
At Baytown Christian Academy there are opportunities to fill every waking hour. In the Grammar School (grades K3-5), learning is based on developing good study habits. Our students are taught via a range of teaching methods to enrich their understanding of the subject matter. Our extensive curriculum aims to develop intellectual curiosity and a thirst for learning, encouraging the students to think independently and put their knowledge to good use. Communication of ideas and fluent expression is taught along with mathematical concepts, cultural history, conversational Spanish and religious education. Students make the most of this balanced program of creative and scientific subjects by learning a disciplined approach to study, with the guidance of their teachers. The overall impact of the grammar stage in a classical Christian school is that it provides students with dependable foundations for the stages ahead. Our aim is that when each student proceeds to the next stage of their education, they will be responsible, confident and adaptable.

Section Two: Middle School
Student’s voice:
At Baytown I don’t ever feel as if I’m asking a dumb question.
Principal’s voice:
At Baytown our students are challenged to… question.
All answers begin with a question. Knowledge has always been fueled by a quest. We know our students can ask any question and be taken seriously at Baytown Christian Academy.
We challenge them to do this every day.
The middle years of classical schooling are referred to as the Dialectic Stage (Grades 6-8). A distinct emphasis of this stage is building confidence in the use of logical reasoning. Therefore our teaching methods begin to shift to systematic study habits. The students are taught to set their own targets for improvement and build on the skills they learned in the Grammar School. One of the aims of Baytown Christian Academy is to offer a wide and exciting academic education to students who can learn alongside each other. This stage encourages the students to reason and question effectively.
Help us help them question.
Section Three: High School
Student’s voice:
I’ve grown up at Baytown.
Principal’s voice:
At Baytown our students are challenged to… grow.
Inch by inch we measure our students’ growth. We believe our students stand taller because they have grown in character while at Baytown Christian Academy. It is their confidence they can point to as measure of that growth.
High School in a classical education is referred to as the Rhetoric Stage (Grades 9-12). Students are provided academic and social experiences to combine foundational learning with effective communication skills. Students are also encouraged to take Advanced Placement courses, consistent with their abilities and goals. We include a variety of teaching strategies to suit the different learning styles of our students. They are encouraged to build on the skills they have learned in the previous stages of their schooling as well as continue to strive for academic excellence. In this way, students are prepared for a life and career in which they can find fulfillment.
Help us help them grow.

There’s so much choice at Baytown.
Principal’s voice:
At Baytown our students are challenged to… see further.
Knowledge is the building block of our students’ imaginations. At Baytown Christian Academy, we challenge them to turn what they learn into imaginative ideas... to see beyond the obvious and dare to imagine the impossible.
There is much more than the classical academic curriculum for Baytown Christian Academy students. The school defines education in its broadest sense, playing a role in the development of the whole individual – their social interests, moral values and life skills. Thus students participate in academics, arts, vocal/instrumental ensembles, athletic leagues and drama activities, enabling them to discover their individual strengths, abilities and special gifts. These in turn foster the development of leadership, team skills and citizenship.
Help us help them see further.

Families who instill moral and ethical teaching in the home, partnered with Christian teachers and administrators, create an invaluable and unbeatable support team in today’s society; a team concerned with the overall development of children, including the emotional and spiritual aspects of life, academics and athletics. The goal of Baytown Christian Academy is to help students grow in spiritual awareness, learn Christian principles and acquire a set of moral values, ensuring that the partnership between parents, students and school is nurtured. Emphasis is placed on the importance of an individual's spiritual and moral growth and the development of self worth and social skills. Students are taught to take responsibility within the school and outside community, learning that part of our development is giving, not just taking. Among the most rewarding and enjoyable activities that unite and inspire students are those involving community service. Through our initiatives and encouragement, students learn the value and joy of giving.
